Welcome to Continuity and Change in the Mediterranean: Migration Shifts
We are delighted to welcome you to this international gathering that brings together a remarkable selection of papers exploring the complex and evolving dynamics of migration across the Mediterranean and its interconnected Arab, European, African, Turkish, and Iranian regions.
The program highlights a wide range of research and perspectives examining migration in its demographic, economic, geopolitical, legal, historical, and ethical dimensions. It reflects on diverse migration patterns, from South-North to South-South flows, and on the roles of key countries, including the emergence of Morocco as a major destination for migrants. Special attention is given to the challenges of integration, discrimination, and migration policies across Afro-European-Arab, Turkish, Iranian, and Mediterranean contexts.
This moment is particularly timely. In 2018, the Marrakesh Compact on Migration, endorsed by over 150 countries, marked a milestone in global cooperation on migration. Yet migration remains a complex and often debated issue, especially in Europe, where immigration from sub-Saharan Africa is frequently seen as a concern, while African and Arab countries host far more migrants, reflecting a broader and often overlooked reality.
We are proud to present a program that features contributions from scholars, practitioners, leaders, and women working at the forefront of migration research and practice.
An international gathering of scholars, practitioners, leaders, and women exploring migration, mobility, leadership, and transformation across the Mediterranean region. Join us for two days of dynamic dialogue and exchange.
